Recently I spent 24 hours in Portland. Two years ago, I would visit for a night here and there while traveling for work. I wanted to take the opportunity to visit with just eating and shopping in mind!

Luc Lac Vietnamese Kitchen: Be prepared to wait! This last trip I waited about 30-40 mins, but other visits have been much shorter. Very good Vietnamese cuisine. Pho, Starters, and the Luc Lac specialty.

Pok Pok: My first visit, but it has been recommended to me for years. There are locations in NY and LA now. Get the Wings! I got my spicy on the side.

Salt & Straw: Ice Cream! All sorts of fun flavors. I got the Almond Brittle & Salted Ganache, but tried almost all the others! Notable, the Pear & Blue cheese (Try it!), Lavender & Honey.

Mother’s Bistro & Bar: Breckie! Anything here is good. 🙂
Japanese Garden and International Rose Test Garden: I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had brought my own water bottle. It was so HOT (like 90 degrees) and I was just very ill prepared.
Pro shopping tip: If there is anything you want to buy sales tax free, call the store in advance.
Makes me miss home! You hit some really great places. Pro Tip: you can get the PokPok fish sauce wings down the street at sister bar Whiskey Soda Lounge, it’s usually faster!

How about the famous food trucks? Did you visit any? We ate at some foot trucks when there – delicious! Also famous Frank’s Noodle house, a recommendation by a friend, did not disappoint: http://www.franksnoodlehousepdx.com/
Suggestions for your next trip 🙂 Sabina

Thanks for the recommendation! With only 24 hours, I didn’t have time (or room in my belly) for the food trucks this time. I have eaten at one of the food trucks before when I used to go through PDX monitoring. I will definitely book mark Frank’s for the next longer visit! Cheers!
